There’s been a wonderful mix of wellbeing, creativity and conservation activity across the Royal Edinburgh Hospital this winter, supported by staff, volunteers and partner organisations.

Seasonal Wellbeing Highlights

Festive wellbeing sessions were well attended by staff from across the site, offering a welcome respite during a busy period. Huge thanks to Cyrenians, who led popular festive pomander making sessions with staff and patients, a simple, sensory activity that lifted spirits and encouraged connection.

A New Haven for Staff

A fantastic new Staff Wellbeing Garden has been created thanks to TCV volunteers and the REH Staff Wellbeing Lead, Cheryl Cassidy.

Designed as a peaceful retreat, it’s already being described by staff as a “haven”.

With benches, picnic tables and edible planting including herbs and fruit bushes, it’s a welcoming space to take a break, enjoy nature or potter with some gentle gardening.

Volunteers Making a Difference

Across the site, NHS Lothian Charity Volunteers and TCV teams have been busy planting bulbs, maintaining garden areas and improving outdoor spaces for patients and staff. These enhancements not only support biodiversity but also strengthen REH’s position for its next Green Flag Award application.
