NHS Lothian Charity and Health in Mind are delighted to announce the launch of a new, centralised online resource dedicated to Green Social Prescribing in Lothian. This new platform aims to streamline connections between healthcare prescribers, activity providers and individuals seeking nature-based opportunities that support wellbeing, rehabilitation and recovery.

The development of this resource directly addresses a key need identified through extensive consultation with stakeholders throughout Lothian. Feedback highlighted the need for a single, accessible platform that not only connects potential prescribers with service providers but also boosts public awareness of available green health opportunities and the importance of these activities in improving their overall physical and mental health and wellbeing.

In response, NHS Lothian Charity’s Green Health team and Health in Mind have developed dedicated Green Social Prescribing information areas within the existing Mental Health and Wellbeing websites that serve communities across Lothian: Eastspace, iThrive, Midspace, and West Space.

“We’re excited to launch this new one stop shop to boost awareness of nature’s health benefits and making green it easier to connect people to nature based activities,” said Ian Mackenzie, Green Health Programme Manager at NHS Lothian Charity. “By centralising this information, we are making it easier for healthcare professionals to prescribe nature-based activities as part of a treatment plan, and for individuals to discover and engage with opportunities that support their mental and physical wellbeing.

“We also encourage all Green Health providers in Lothian to embrace this new platform. By collaborating and sharing opportunities, we can build a truly comprehensive and invaluable resource that will significantly improve the health and wellbeing of our community.”

This initiative highlights a shared commitment to improving public health outcomes through the delivery of innovative and accessible Green Social Prescribing approaches. NHS Lothian Charity and Health in Mind warmly invite all relevant organisations and individuals to explore this new platform and join them in contributing to its ongoing success and positive impact on wellbeing across Lothian.
